Congratulations to Sam Kelly – Junior Champion (East Lancashire RC), Erica Booth (Lancashire RC) and Philip Jones (DRAG2ZERO), our 2020 NLTTA 10 champions.
Sam Kelly (East Lancashire RC) 22:04 fastest Junior on the day, 2nd place went to Daniel Porter (Horwich CC) 23:55.
Erica’s impressive form produced a fabulous 20:55 to win the Women’s prize from Rebecca Rimmington (Team Merlin) with an equally fast 21:18. Charlotte Boothman (Team Lusso) took 3rd place on the podium with 21:39. Erica’s winning time also sets a new NLTTA record for the women beating Charlotte’s 2019 time of 21:04.
Phil, last years champion recorded a new pb and new NLTTA record time of 18.29 surpassing Steve Irwin’s time of 18:49. On the podium in 2nd place was Rossendale RC’s Patrick Hickey with 19:07. The third podium spot went to Tony Greenhalgh (Team Chronomaster) with a 19:29.
The 10 mile team champions are the VC Cumbria trio of David Hill (20:22), David Gleave (20:25) and Kenneth Brown (21:23).
Sunday morning’s Wigan Wheelers 30 saw both the men’s and women’s records fall on the Levens L308 course.
Erica Booth (Lancashire RC) knocked 58 seconds off Lynn Hamel’s 2006 time with a stunning 1:9:32.
Brian Fogarty (Fogarty’s Insurance Tri Team) broke the men’s record set by Tom Rigby in 2018 with a 1:2:00.
Still waiting for confirmation but unofficially the previous nights 10 mile TT saw both the men’s and women’s records fall as well – more to follow…
The Velo Club Cumbria 50 mile event on Sunday was the venue for this seasons 50 mile championships. It’s been a long wait for racing to resume on L courses, but my word there were some great performances.
Rebecca Rimmington of Team Merlin and Tom Rigby of Croston Velo are your 50 mile champions for 2020. Rebecca recorded a fabulous time of 1:56:34 which is also a new NLTTA Ladies record. Tom recorded a very fast 1:41:03 which is also another NLTTA record for the Men.
The Team Champions are Velo Club Cumbria winning a close battle with Fogarty’s Insurance Tri Team by just 39 seconds (5:33:51).
Next up is the Wigan Wheelers 10 on Levens (15 August), the event chosen to host this years 10 mile championships.
In view of the current Covid-19 situation and the effect it is having on the 2020 season, the NLTTA has reluctantly taken the following decisions regarding the Association’s Competitions for the 2020 season.
The Association would like to thank all clubs and their members who have supported us over the years and we look forward to their continued support in 2021, when there will hopefully be a full season of racing.
Kind regards
Veronica Swift
Secretary to NLTTA
