2016 Points Competition Hotting Up

We’re getting to the sharp end of the season and all is still to play for in the NLTTA points competition.
The Lancaster CC ’25’ on Sunday could be a key event.

Derek Parkinson, Springfield Financial, is currently in the lead on 951 points (from 8 events). Steve Irwin, North Lancs RC, on 837 points (from 7 events) and David Allonby, Springfield Financial, on 835 points (from 7 events) are sure to progress further up the standings with riders best 8 placings counting in the season long competition.

The team competition is even tighter with only 5 points separating the current leaders, Springfield Financial, from Preston Whs, 2,560 to 2,555.

The leading ladies are in 13th, 14th and 15th places overall with Carol Westmorland, Border City Wheelers, leading the way from Theresa Taylor, Preston CC, and Sue Cheetham, North Lancs RC, with 741, 731 and 711 points, respectively.

Border City Wheelers 50 – 20 August – cancelled

Unfortunately we have again had to cancel the Border City Wheelers Open ’50’ originally planned for 12th June and then rescheduled for 20th August, because of yet more roadworks on the A66, this time on the eastbound Bassenthwaite Lake section. These works commence on 8th August and will finish on the 20th.

The NLTTA Championship 50 will now be the Chester RC 50 on 4 September.

Border City Wheelers 25 cancelled – 17 July

Regrettably, further roadworks on the A66 leave us with no choice but to cancel the Sunday, 17th July Border City Wh ‘25’. These roadworks are unconnected with those causing earlier cancellations and are located near Embleton. A section of the carriageway is being re-surfaced during the night, leaving a very rough temporary surface during daytime hours. The final surface is due to be laid from 19th July. You will receive a further email stating that your entry has been rejected. This is the mechanism to return your entry fee of £8 – the £1 bank transaction fee unfortunately cannot be refunded.

The Border City Wh ‘10’ on Saturday 16th July is unaffected by these roadworks.

Please accept our apology for this cancellation, but we hope you can find an alternative event, since the closing date was Tuesday 5th July.

Letter from Doreen Kay

Doreen and family wish to thank the member clubs of the NLTTA for their generous donation to cycling Projects.

As you know Terry fully embraced the cycling world and would come home fully satisfied if an event or meeting had run smoothly.

He would have been so pleased to know that so many cyclists attended his funeral.

 Once again, Thank you,

 Doreen (Kay)

Welcome from our Chairman

2015 was a great year for the Association with some fantastic rides achieved by our members. Records galore were broken, the stand out being Steve Irwin’s 30mph plus 49.30 in the Lancaster 25 on Levens, the fastest ever on an L course by a local rider. Aided and abetted by rival and friend Richard Bideau, the complexion of Lancashire time trialling was changed forever.

Promotions were a success again as was the dinner. 2016 looks set to be a great year with us once again promoting an open 100 after several years break. In late July at Keswick, it covers 4 laps of the 25 course. Helpers and riders are required!

Best wishes for a successful season.

Richard Taylor
Chairman

Welcome to the NLTTA

An excellent 2014 showed the future is bright for the NLTTA. Two massive fields in the combined clubs events, strong support for the inaugural points competition and increased member club affiliation all indicate we are heading in the right direction. But the job is by no means finished, the Association still needs plenty of assistance with promotions and support, so that in future we can consider the promotion of the flagship longer events missing from the calendar.

I wish you all the best of luck for 2015 and ride safely.
